2016 Tenth Annual Banquet
October 26, 2016
MAMA Seattle’s Tenth Annual Banquet was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle. MAMA Seattle was proud to present Roberta Cooper Ramo, the 2015 recipient of the prestigious American Bar Association (ABA) Medal, with our 2016 Betty Binns Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award. Ms. Ramo’s daughter, Jennifer Ramo, provided introductory remarks.
The first woman ABA president in 1995, Ms. Ramo is also the first woman elected president of the American Law Institute, and the only person to have led both organizations. She has been a trailblazer in the use of technology in law practice, and helped found what is now called the Law Practice Division at the ABA. A champion for judicial independence and adequate funding for legal aid, Ms. Ramo has also been the force behind the creation of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence. MAMA Seattle’s Betty Binns Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award is given each year to an individual who has paved the way to success for, and has served as an inspiration to, other women attorneys striving to excel in their legal careers while balancing family demands. Ms. Ramo has been and continues to be an exceptional leader for lawyers in general, and serves as a beacon of light in the legal community for women attorneys and mother attorneys across the country. For all of these reasons and many more, MAMA Seattle was honored to be able to present Ms. Ramo its 2016 Betty Binns Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award at the MAMA Seattle Tenth Annual Banquet on October 26, 2016.
