2025 Nineteenth Annual Banquet

MAMA Seattle’s Nineteenth Annual Banquet will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle. Each year at the Annual Banquet, MAMA Seattle presents its Betty Binns Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award to an individual who has paved the way to success for, and has served as an inspiration to, other women attorneys striving to excel in their legal careers while balancing family demands.

MAMA Seattle is pleased to announce Professor Elizabeth Porter is the 2025 Betty Binns Fletcher Leadership and Justice Award recipient.

Liz Porter

Liz Porter has been a professor at the University of Washington School of Law since 2010. She teaches and writes about civil procedure, torts, complex litigation, and constitutional law. She also co-directs the Law School’s Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Appellate Advocacy Clinic. Her work has been published in journals including the University of Washington Law Review, the N.Y.U. Law Review, the Cornell Law Review, and the Columbia Law Review. In addition, she recently co-edited a book, A Guide to Civil Procedure: Integrating Critical Legal Perspectives. Prof. Porter has received numerous teaching awards while at UW, including the University Distinguished Teaching Award in 2014.

Following her graduation from Columbia Law School, Prof. Porter served as a law clerk for Judge Sydney Thomas at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the U.S. Supreme Court. After her clerkships, she was a litigation associate at Jenner & Block in D.C.

Prof. Porter has three children, the oldest of whom–now 25–was born while she was a 3L.
